The Lord grant mercy to the house of
Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains;
but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me, the
Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on that day, and you know
very well what services he rendered at Ephesus.
2 Timothy 1:16-18 (NASB)

Plan for the day: When I read this it occurred to me that this
man (I guess he is a man) demonstrated the attributes that should be in
all Christians. His presence cheered people up. He wasn't ashamed of
other Christians, even the ones that other people found a little
radical. When God gave him something to do, he saw it through to the
end. He was willing to lay down his own comfort for the sake of a
brother. All of these things aren't flashy, but godly. They are also
decisions and choices that you make not “feelings” that you wait to come
on you. I wonder if Onesiphorus felt led to go to Rome and cheer up
Paul. I wonder if he felt led to look for him in jail until he found
him. Sometimes, living the Christian life is simply grinding out what is
right to do regardless of whether or not it is fun or you feel led to do
it. Jesus said, “As much as you have done it to the least of these, you
have done it to me.” When you lay down your life (your feelings) for
someone, it is as if you are doing it for Jesus. That puts things into a
different perspective in some cases.
A daily Bible reading Scripture
